Pool Renovation and Remodeling in Florida

Pool renovation is a full or partial remodel of an existing pool. It can include a new interior finish, tile, coping, deck, equipment, and even changes to the shape. Prime renovates pools from Orlando to Miami, starting with a free on-site look at what you have.

When a pool is ready for a remodel

A pool is ready for a remodel when the surface is rough or stained, the tile is cracked or faded, the coping is loose, the deck is cracking, or the whole thing just looks dated. In Florida, years of sun, chemicals and storms wear every part of a pool. A renovation brings the pieces back in line so the pool looks and works like new.

Sometimes the shape is the problem. A pool with no shallow area, no place to sit or an awkward corner can be reshaped. If you are not sure whether you need a repair or a remodel, our pool repair page explains where that line falls.

What a full renovation covers

We build the scope around what your pool actually needs. A renovation can be a single upgrade or a complete rework, and your estimate lists each item separately so you see where the money goes.

  • Interior finish: replace plaster with a new plaster, quartz or pebble surface. See pool resurfacing.
  • Waterline tile and coping: new tile and edge material, which often changes the look of the pool the most. See pool tile and coping.
  • Deck: pavers, travertine, marble or concrete around the pool. See pool decks.
  • Equipment: pumps, filters, heaters, salt systems and automation. See pool equipment.
  • Reshaping and additions: a sun shelf, benches, a spa or a water feature added to the existing shell.

Reshaping and adding to your pool

Reshaping means cutting into the existing shell, changing it and rebuilding the surface. Common changes include adding a sun shelf at the shallow end, building a spa, raising or lowering a floor section, squaring off a corner or adding steps. These changes involve demolition, new steel and concrete, plumbing adjustments and a new interior finish.

A project like this can need engineering drawings and a permit. We tell you at the estimate whether yours does, and the permit is listed in the proposal. Details like a pool and spa addition or new features and upgrades are easiest to plan into the same project.

Florida conditions that shape a renovation

A renovation is often when the water table becomes a real issue. If your pool needs to be drained for demolition or a new finish, groundwater can push up on an empty shell. We check the situation before draining, and hydrostatic relief valves in the floor are part of how we protect the pool. Never drain a pool in Florida without checking first, especially during the rainy season.

Sun, rain and hurricane season also affect timing. Intense UV breaks down old finishes and decking, summer storms interrupt exterior work, and large storms can damage an exposed job site. We plan the schedule around the weather and give you a timeline with the estimate. See hurricane prep for your pool for what to do before a storm.

Hard water and calcium scale shorten the life of finishes and tile, so part of a good renovation is setting up equipment and a maintenance routine that protect the new surface.

How the money follows the work

A renovation is paid the same way as a new build. A remodel starts with a small booking deposit, typically below 5% of the price. Drawings, if your job needs them, are paid when ordered. From there, each payment lines up with work completed at your house.

No crew on site means no payment due. We do not collect large deposits to keep other projects running, because your money is meant to be used on your pool.

Step by step: pool renovation with Prime

  1. Free on-site estimate

We inspect the pool, the tile, the coping, the deck and the equipment, and talk through what you want to change.

  2. Itemized written proposal

Each part of the remodel is listed separately, along with any permit your project needs and anything not included.

  3. Approvals and booking

A small deposit holds your spot. Drawings are ordered if required, and we supply specs and samples for any HOA application.

  4. Demolition and rebuild

We remove what is failing, reshape or repair the shell, replace tile, coping and deck, and prepare the surface for its new finish.

  5. Finish, start-up and walk-through

The new finish goes in, the pool is filled, balanced and brushed, and we walk you through the equipment.

Questions about pool renovation

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, call (689) 225-1200.

Is a renovation cheaper than building a new pool?

Usually, because the shell and plumbing are already there. A remodel that reshapes the pool or replaces everything can approach new-build territory. Your estimate shows each part separately so you can decide.

Can I renovate in stages?

Yes. Some owners do the finish and tile first, and the deck later. We explain which items are best done together to avoid redoing work.

Will you need to empty my pool?

For a new finish, yes. In Florida we check the water table first, since an empty pool can float or crack if groundwater pushes up. We never recommend draining without that check.

Does a renovation need a permit?

Some do, especially when the shell is changed, a spa is added or electrical work is involved. We tell you at the estimate and list it in the proposal.

Can you add a spa or sun shelf to my existing pool?

Often yes. It involves cutting into the shell and rebuilding the surface. We look at the pool during the visit and tell you what is practical.

How do you pay for a renovation?

A small booking deposit, usually less than 5%, holds your spot. Drawings are paid when ordered, and then you pay in stages only as work happens on site.
